About this template

The Exec Modern Finance template is an executive cover letter in Inter with a charcoal sidebar, white body and a single accent metric callout. Shorter sentences, tighter line height — the language of a modern fund pitch deck rather than a memo. Compatible with ATS at hedge funds, growth funds and fintechs (Greenhouse, Lever at new-generation funds; Workday at established firms; in-house portals at Citadel, Renaissance, Two Sigma, Bridgewater).

Who is it for?

It suits senior finance professionals at the boundary of investment, fintech and growth strategy. Hedge fund managers, fintech founders, growth-stage CFOs, head-of-strategy candidates who want their letter to read like the funds and decks they review every week. Fits moves between funds, PE-to-corporate transitions and growth-stage CFO applications.

How to use it

The charcoal sidebar (60 mm wide) carries name, current title, AUM if applicable, IRR/MOIC track record. The metric callout under the name (3 KPIs maximum) selects the heavy indicators: "AUM $1.8bn", "Net IRR 22%", "14 deals closed". The body follows a pitch structure: thesis (your posture), traction (quantified proof), ask (the next step). Avoid emotional narrative — the effect rests on numerical density. For a fund manager application, attach a 1-2 page track record summary by strategy (long-short equity, credit, macro).

Frequently asked questions

Should I attach a detailed track record?

For fund manager applications, yes: 1-2 pages of track record per strategy (long-short equity, credit, macro), with gross and net performance, maximum drawdown, Sharpe ratio, Sortino, alpha vs benchmark. For fintech founders, attach an investor pitch deck of 12-15 slides in a 'clean' version (with sensitive data redacted).

How do I state AUM if confidential?

Use ranges: "AUM > $500M", "between $1bn and $3bn". Avoid exact figures if the fund has not published its annual report or its 13F (SEC filing). For SEC-registered funds, AUM is public and can be cited — verify the latest filing on EDGAR before submission. For private funds, ranges remain the safe and accepted norm.

Does the format fit a traditional finance CFO?

More for growth-stage, fintech or scale-up CFOs. For a CFO of a large listed group (S&P 500, FTSE 100), prefer letter-prof-cfo which carries the annual-report-commentary register. The Modern Finance model remains coded fund/growth and may feel out of place in traditional corporate finance.
