About this template
The UK Executive template is a British executive CV in Calibri with a Cambria name. Three pages — personal statement, board-impact summary, leadership experience — made readable by generous margins and an Oxford blue rule under each job title. Reserved for executives targeting FTSE boards.
Who is it for?
It fits senior UK executives — CEO, CFO, NED (Non-Executive Director) and FTSE board members — recruited via City executive search firms (Egon Zehnder London, Spencer Stuart, Russell Reynolds, Heidrick & Struggles, Korn Ferry). Profiles whose CV reads alongside a board pack, where every P&L responsibility line, deal or transformation programme must be sourced and dated.
How to use it
The opening personal statement runs five to seven lines: career pattern, cumulative P&L scope (in GBP or USD), geographies, transformation sectors. The Board and committee experience section lists each mandate with dates, type (Chair, Senior Independent Director, NED, Chair of Audit Committee, Chair of Remuneration Committee) and nature (FTSE 100, FTSE 250, AIM-listed, private equity-owned, charity board). Mention governance certifications (IoD Chartered Director, FCMA, FCCA if Audit Chair). Indicate if you are FCA-approved (SMF function holder).
Frequently asked questions
Is IoD Chartered Director indispensable?
Not mandatory, but it has become a standard for NEDs of FTSE 250 and above. The Institute of Directors (IoD) delivers the Chartered Director certification after examination — it is a governance seriousness marker read by City headhunters. Mention it as a name suffix (CDir) if you hold it.
FCA-approved (SMF) — when to mention?
Always for financial services profiles. The Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR) imposes FCA approval for Senior Manager Functions (SMF1 CEO, SMF2 CFO, SMF9 Chair, SMF10 Chair of Risk, SMF11 Chair of Audit, SMF13 Chair of Nomination). Indicate the approved SMF and the company: « FCA-approved SMF11 — Audit Committee Chair, [Bank Name] (2021–present) ».
How to position non-UK experience?
Specify the equivalence of structures and jurisdictions: « Member of Supervisory Board of a EUR 2.8 bn revenue, Frankfurt-listed manufacturer (MDAX), supervised by BaFin and EU Market Abuse Regulation ». The City values cross-border experience, particularly for FTSE 100 boards with international exposure (Shell, AstraZeneca, Unilever, HSBC) where EU / US / Asian regulation familiarity is an asset.
