About this template

The USA Standard template is a one-page American CV in Calibri with a navy title and reverse-chronological structure. No photo, no date of birth, no marital status — strictly aligned with conventions expected by American recruiters and ATS. Suits English-speaking candidates targeting the US market or American subsidiaries.

Who is it for?

It fits candidates targeting the American market — engineers, product managers, marketing, finance and consulting profiles applying to American companies (FAANG, scale-ups, Fortune 500), US offices of multinationals or remote roles based in the United States. Particularly relevant when the application passes through Workday, Greenhouse or Lever before any human review. For new graduates from Sciences Po, HEC, Polytechnique, Wharton, MIT, Stanford targeting Wall Street, McKinsey New York, Goldman Sachs.

How to use it

One page strictly. No photo, no date of birth, no nationality (migration status in a discreet line: « Authorized to work in the US — Green Card holder / US Citizen / OPT until [date] / H-1B candidate »). The opening Professional Summary runs three lines. Reverse chronology. American date format (« Jan 2022 – Present » or « 01/2022 – Present »). For a Wall Street finance role, mention certifications (CFA Level III passed, Series 7, Series 63, Series 79 depending on the role). For FAANG tech, list the stack and open-source contributions. Mention GPA if above 3.5/4.0.

Frequently asked questions

How to convert a non-US diploma for the US market?

Have it assessed by WES (World Education Services) which is the reference for US employers. Indicate on the CV: « Master's degree in Engineering — École Centrale Lyon (WES evaluation: equivalent to US Master's degree) ». For French Grandes Écoles (HEC, Polytechnique, Sciences Po, ENS, Mines), the WES assessment suffices for the majority of employers.

OPT, H-1B, Green Card — what to mention?

Specify your migration status clearly: « US Citizen », « Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) », « OPT until [Month Year] — STEM extension eligible », « F-1 student requiring H-1B sponsorship », « H-1B holder — eligible for transfer ». The status directly conditions recruiter interest — US employers are very transparent on sponsorship constraints.

One page strictly even for a senior profile?

Yes for US standard — it is the strict convention applied by Wall Street, FAANG, McKinsey, Bain, BCG and most Fortune 500. For an executive profile (CEO, CFO, partner candidate), switch to USA Executive which tolerates two pages. For an academic profile (research scientist, university faculty), the long academic CV format remains separate.
